The 10 most spoken languages in London

London is the most diversify city in the world in terms of languages. Indeed, over 250 languages are spoken there. 80% of Londoners speak English as their first language, while others don’t speak English at all, or very poorly.
You can hear in London itself, most of the European and even further countries languages. Indeed, in the majority of boroughs, more than 100 languages are spoken.

The 10 most spoken languages in terms of boroughs are:

  1. English – Everywhere
  2. Polish – Bromley, Lewisham, Wandsworth, Merton, Richmond, Barnet and Ealing
  3. Turkish – Enfield, Haringey, Islington, and Hackney
  4. Bengali – Camden, Tower Hamlets and Newham
  5. French – Hammersmith & Fulham, City of London and Kensington & Chelsea
  6. Punjabi – Bexley, Hounslow and Hillingdon
  7. Tamil – Croydon, Sutton and Kingston
  8. Gujarati – Harrow and Brent
  9. Lithuanian – Havering and Barking
  10. Urdu – Waltham Forest and Redbridg

These languages are also spoken in some boroughs of London:
Arabic – Westminster
Nepalese – Greenwich
Portuguese – Lambeth
Spanish – Southwark
