Is this the first time you need to speak into a mic? Or maybe you are stressed because you have an audition? Don’t worry.
Here are some tips to help you in this new adventure.
First of all, you can do a soundcheck. The volume has to be properly adjusted and make sure to verify the quality.
Then, test before speaking. Every mike has its own features so it can react differently. When practising a text, practise out loud. Your voice IS your musical instrument. A pianist must strike the piano to practise, and not just stare at it, thinking about playing it. Hence you must do the same with your voice. But practising out loud, your muscles get used to the movements required for the words, and you can hear your own performance, reacting to it and experimenting.
And last but not the least, don’t put the microphone too far from your mouth, a couple of inches will be enough. The idea is that your voice flows over the microphone, don’t speak directly into it because it will produce a distorted sound.Try to speak naturally.
Now that you are prepared, onwards and upwards!
